Commissioner Karen Gomez-Dumpit delivered before the Committee on Justice House of Representatives
Today is the 14th anniversary of the passage of Republic Act No. 9346, an Act Prohibiting the Imposition of the Death Penalty in the Philippines. Let us remain firm in upholding the right to life and resist any move to reimpose the death penalty.
CHR Commissioner Karen S. Gomez-Dumpit stressed that crimes must be punished through an efficient and functional justice system. Death penalty can breed more problems and do more harm without resolving what it purports to stop in the first place. The obligation to deliver justice must not breed further injustice.
